The world freezes, everything takes a blue tint and burns away, leaving place for a burning land. Flaming letters appear in front of you. YOU HAVE BEEN CHALLENGED! The timers descends, 1800 is written on it. On both sides of the timer are two health bars, under the left one is written your name: <<Gulf Beast>> under the right one is written another name: <<Sorbus Venom>>

Intense heat fills the environment, slowly decreasing your health, but your opponent health is decreasing as well.
Streams of lava can be seen around touching them wouldn't be a nice thing...

The guide cursor points to your left, would you look, your opponent wouldn't be visible. Multiple obstacles are in the way...

The instant he exited the blue world, his entire body was already clad in deep blue light armor, made out of a strange substance that had been forged and shaped to resemble the scales of a reptilian creature ornamented with predator like decorations such as teeth and spikes in his jaw and shoulders, giving him a rather ferocious apperance in comparison to his skinny self in the non accelerated reality.

Two transparent blue gauges quickly filled with a 'gloop' like sound. The one at the left was his, <<Gulf Beast>>. On the other side was <<Sorbus Venom>>, the one who had challenged him. He had completely forgotten that two days ago, he had installed the program <<Brain Burst>> and obtained the boon of <<Acceleration>>, becoming an existence in a plane higher than the rest of humans who surrounded him.

-However, in exchange for that power-

The words [FIGHT!] flashed before his eyes, followed by a flashy flame SFX.

-He had no choice but to fight if he wished to remain in his holy land-!

-"It's hot!"

He couldn't help but instinctively complain. Who the hell had designed these kind of stages? He could already feel the heat slowly but surely accumulate inside his body, as if his physical body in the real world were slowly being eaten away as his cells started to malfunction. No, who the hell had thought it was a good idea to make a fighting game like this in the first place.

Damn, I'm supposed to focus!

He had no time for silly questions. This was his true debut fight. He couldn't just give up here just because it was slightly hotter than summer days. First of all, according to his Master, he had to look at the 2D arrow on his HUD, called <<Guide Cursor>>. According to him, it gave only a general indication of where his enemy was, without indicating height or anything of the sort.

Even so, it was already something. Then, next he had to... Of course. Clicking on his Health Gauge, he opened up his moves list to make sure he wouldn't screw up.

<<Punch>>, which showed a display of a cartoonish version of himself performing a punch.

<<Kick>>, which did the same, only with a kicking motion.

And then was his Special Technique, <<Rage Mode>>, which could not be currently activated as it needed the Special Technique gauge to be filled before he could do anything, and as his Master and he hadn't fought yet, he couldn't tell what was it supposed to do. The picture showed his chibi self growing muscles and roaring, but he couldn't make a guess about how was that a special move.

He approached one of the obstacles in his way, and decided to test his own skills. First he tried to launch a kick. Even though the motions were correct, they were both incredibly clumsy and easy to see through. Although he had the system's help, it would be pretty hard for him to connect it properly.

On the other hand were his fists. Without needing to think, he rotated his body, shifted his body's balance by bending slightly his knee and rising his heels a little off the ground, tucked his chin and readied his fists.

Then, he kicked off with his left foot, while letting the weight rest on his right. As a result, his torso was brought forward as he thrust his fist forward.

The result was, as opposed to a kick which had barely made a dent on the rock's surface, his punch bore through and made a hole shaped like his fist in its place. He had done this hundreds, thousands of times.

In comparison to the punch displayed by the system, this one was significnatly stronger due to the amount of time and practice put behind it. If one witnessed it, he or she would think it was probably at the level of a low tier special technique, but this was merely Haruto's only combat technique he had mastered. Feeling his confidence raise a little and believing he stood a chance, he slowly but surely made his way through the rubble in his way, in hopes of meeting his opponent.

Have you taken a few steps that you spot a figure among the rubble, its color blending with the flames of the stage by moment makes him hard to view clearly. A medium type avatar, with a orange colored armor. with no seemingly features other than a stick in his hand.

-Oi! Oi! Your opponent is me, not a dumb rock! C'mon fight like a man!

Saying so he raises his hand in a motion to come over. Waiting for your reaction before acting, pushing his taunt into not taking any stance.

His health bar has also decreased, his special gauge bar has also increased by approximatively the same amount.

-Oi! Oi! Your opponent is me, not a dumb rock! C'mon fight like a man!

The moment he understood that he was in a fight, he gave the orders for his left leg to push forward so he would dash towards his opponent, and then proceed to jab him in the face before he could tell what was going on-!

... Or that is what he had in mind, yet it seemed his body had other plans.

His legs were frozen. They refused to move, bar for trembling every now and then. Of course. This wasn't a VR game. The one who moved the Duel Avatar in front of him wasn't an artificial intelligence, but a human who breathed the same air as he did and felt the same pain.

The last time he had done this, it was in self defense. He had merely punched because he had been attacked, that was all. He did not understand his Duel Avatar's appearance, or name. Why was he a 'beast', out of all things? That...

Or was it all there was to it?

Instead of retreating, he kept on going there. Even though he understood that there would be more fighting. He did not want to go back to his room. He wanted to be stronger, so that no longer he would have to stand the pity from others and above all else, from himself.

That was why, he could not hesitate anymore-!

This time, his left foot kicked off the ground with all the strength he could muster, closing the distance between him and his opponent with the maximum explosive speed he was able to attain and gathered its the force of his dash into his upper torso and left arm for the sake of throwing a jab that would hopefully end this battle with a single blow.

As you hesitate, his arrogant voice rings to your ears again.

-What you scared? Looks like I'm gonna hunt the Beast!

Bringing his stick to his face you realize that it's not a mere stick but a pipe. He seemingly blows in it as you are about to dash, shooting a round projectile at you.

-Eat this, beasty It's good food!

Keeping his weapon ready, the opponent looks at you, readying himself in case you'd dash forward again.

I can dodge it!

Is what he believed. But, his legs did not respond in time. One thing was practicing dodging projectiles against dummies, and another was the real thing, where the slightest trace of doubt could freeze one's legs. The projectile cleanly impacted against his breatplate, which instantly began to sizzle, making him groan in pain as he felt something akin to his skin melt away.

At the same time, his Health Gauge was slowly but surely going down. By itself, it would not be much of a problem, but combined with the stage's natural lowering of health as time went by, he would die there. Unless...

Gathering himself, he rose his head to face his opponent-

Only to realize that his opponent had already initiated a mad dash from him. In 2D scroller fighting games from ages ago, this kind of tactic would be called 'The Rock'. Blocking constantly upon a clean hit and avoiding all damage to win. In a sense, this was the same technique. Instead of standing around and risking a loss, all he had to do was inflict enough damage and run away. The timer was his true attack!

-"Shit! What do I do, what do I..."

He had only a possibility, and it was running after him in a rather comical way. The only thing this scene lacked was a sax SFX from the 20th century to be complete...

-"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIT!"

Your pleads for him to wait are welcomed with a laugh as he turns to face you with a thumb down gesture.

-Can't take the heat beastie? I'll cool you down real hard there!

Taking a funny pose as well, he raises his hand in a motion to tell you to stop and brings his weapon to his mouth for another shot!

-"Nuooooooooh!"

Raising his arms in front of his chest as an improvised guard, he blocks the incoming ball of noxious substance with his right hand and endures the pain before placing his right foot in front of him. Then, rotating his trunk and concentrating the weight of his body into a single point, thrusts forward his left fist in the direction of his opponent's face-!

-Wait! What are you doing! Not my fa
Your fist connects directly with the Orange avatar's face, making him take a few step back in a stunned state.

His HP bar fell down by a good 40%!

-Hey! It hurts! Don't you know good manners?!

Your opponent shouts as he attempts a "Spartan kick" to push you off.

Once his left punch had connected, there was little else to do. Thrusting his right fist forward before the kick can successfully connect, he attempts to throw his opponent off balance. Once that's done, it's merely a simple matter of just punching away at him until he dies-!

Your move was perfectly done. However, your opponent was a bit faster than you.

But.

His kick lacked strength so it didn't stop your move and...

BAM! You opponent falls heavily on the floor.

Raising his hands toward you he pleads.

-Please! If I lose this one I'll lose all my points! This game is all I got! Please!

His HP: 12%
His KG: FULL

But before even leaving you time to react, His Killer Gauge suddenly drops my 40% of its totality!
-Bad Breath!
A flow of greenish vapor come right from his mouth in your direction!
(Would it hit you vision would blur and you'll be poisoned for 3 turns dealing 2% per post)

-"Guh!"

Given that kind of situation, he would have carelessly fallen for it if he weren't acquainted with fighting already. However, he did not hesitate to move to the left by putting all the strength in his trunk and left leg to rotate his body and avoid the attack.

Why?

It was very simple.

The same as he had said, he could not stand the notion of losing the source of his strength right now. The freedom granted by this strength was absolutely invaluable.

It wasn't like this guy would die or anything. At worst, he would just lose his priviledge to use Brain Burst. But, wasn't that allright?

The strong predate upon the weak. That's the way things are. He, long ago, was nothing more than a mere rabbit. However, now...

He was a monster. And there was only one thing a monster like him was good at.

Once the mist dissipated into thin air, he launched the punch that perhaps would finish the match once and for all.

-"Don't care."

In face of his special attack, you do not falther. Seeing this, your opponent yells at the top of his lungs, only to be silenced by your last attack.

Exploding into hundreds of polygons, Sorbus Venom is defeated.
